This morning in church, our youth pastors wife walked up onto the stage and shared a story about how 14 years ago on this day she was in labor and did not know it.
She said a friend came by to visit and every few moments, the friend noticed she was moving around as if she were uncomfortable.
She said, Pam, I think you may be in labor. Pam responded, but I can’t be! It’s not painful enough. This is not what others have told me labor would be like. This isn't it.
The friend finally convinced her to go to the hospital to just make sure. Two hours later, their firstborn son was born.
Pam was encouraging us that just maybe we are in labor (with a dream), but don’t know it yet. God has put gifts inside of us that are ready to be born, but sometimes we may not ‘feel’ ready for them.
Maybe it is because we feel like the time to start will look differently. Or maybe we are battling our fears or feelings of inadequacy.
Maybe we are waiting for the time when we think we will have all of the answers or for when we are at a better place in our lives.
However, not starting to live out the dreams we have within us can cause discouragement.
“Hope deferred makes the heart sick, but a longing fulfilled is a tree of life.” - Proverbs 13:12
For Jermaine and I, we have been in labor for almost 3 years with the vision of the Hope Artists. Their have been many reasons why we have told ourselves it wasn’t yet time to head to the hospital to give birth.
But we are finally putting our bags in the car and buckling up for the ride. We don’t want to give birth to this baby on the side of the road - at a time or place that’s not intended.
We know we have been given the experiences, passions and hearts to help others, and by mid-November, we plan to share those gifts with others who are looking for hope.
Have you ever dodged a dream or calling? Think about that thing in your life that you long for. Could you do something to start fulfilling that?
